Technical Support TeamGeographic Information Systems
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer based tool for mapping and analyzing things that exist and events that happen on earth. GIS technology integrates common database operations and statistical analysis with the unique visualization and geographic analysis offered by maps. GIS gives you the power to create maps, integrate information, visualize scenarios, solve complicated problems, and present powerful ideas visually. The Natural Resources Conservation Service will utilize GIS for its abilities to collect, query, and analyze natural resource information and to use this information to provide assistance to landusers and decision makers. The Customer Service Toolkit is a tool currently being piloted in selected BPR sites to assist field offices in utilizing GIS. Customer Service ToolkitThe Customer Service Toolkit is software to provide NRCS field offices with conservation planning capability integrated into a Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS capability is enhanced through the use of USDA extensions and software to assist the field in using ArcView Desktop GIS. These extensions are designed to help NRCS Field Staff perform common conservation planning-related activities that would be difficult using only the out-of-the-box version of ArcView.
